Type: Perennial

Sun: Full sun

Water Needs: Low to moderate; drought tolerant once established

Height: 12–36" tall

Spread: 12–24" (slowly spreading by short rhizomes to form loose colonies)

Spacing: 18–24" apart

Bloom Time: July–September (mid- to late summer)

Bloom Description: Flat to slightly rounded clusters of numerous small, bright golden-yellow flower heads held above narrow gray-green foliage. The dense blooms create a showy display and provide abundant nectar late in the season.

Maintenance: Low; cut back stems after flowering or leave seed heads for winter interest and wildlife. Plants spread gradually and can be divided if clumps become crowded.

Soil Drainage: Prefers well-drained soils; highly adaptable to sandy, rocky, or loamy soils and tolerates dry conditions better than wet or poorly drained sites.

Wildlife Value: Excellent pollinator plant that attracts a wide range of bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. Seeds may also be eaten by birds, and the plant serves as a host for several native insect species.

Garden Use: Excellent for pollinator gardens, prairie plantings, native meadows, and xeriscapes. Its bright late-season flowers provide valuable color and nectar when many other plants have finished blooming and pair well with native grasses and wildflowers.
