Forest Stewardship

Grow Wild is advancing a community-driven Forest Stewardship Plan to improve forest health, reduce wildfire risk, and guide long-term care of Big Sky’s forests—moving from a draft roadmap to on-the-ground action through collaboration and community support.

Step 1

Establish the Draft Plan (Complete)

Grow Wild has developed a draft, community-informed Forest Stewardship Plan that serves as a guiding framework—a starting point for coordinated action across landowners, agencies, and partners in Big Sky.

Step 2

Refine Through Professional Expertise

(In Progress / Fundraising)

The next step is to raise funds to contract with forestry and wildlife professionals to fully develop and refine the draft into a comprehensive, actionable plan.

This phase will include active community engagement to ensure local needs, wildlife and habitat priorities, and existing capacity gaps are clearly understood and addressed.

The refined plan will define a realistic scope, structure, and service model for a Community Forester role tailored to Big Sky’s unique landscape.

Step 3

Implement & Steward

for the Long Term

(Future)

With a completed plan in hand, Grow Wild will hire a Community Forester and begin implementation, putting the plan into action to improve forest health, reduce wildfire risk, and support long-term resilience for Big Sky’s forests, wildlife, and community.
