  • Bloom Description: Upright clusters of showy lavender to violet tubular flowers with subtle nectar guides and fine white hairs near the flower throat. The blooms are borne along tall stems above toothed green foliage and create a striking display in early to mid-summer.

  • Maintenance: Low; thrives in lean soils and requires little care once established. Avoid overwatering and allow good air circulation; spent stems can be trimmed after flowering or left for natural reseeding.

  • Soil Drainage: Requires well-drained soil; performs best in sandy, gravelly, or rocky soils and does not tolerate poorly drained conditions.

  • Wildlife Value: Nectar-rich flowers attract bees, hummingbirds, and other pollinators, making it an important food source in native shrub-steppe and mountain ecosystems.

  • Garden Use: Excellent for xeriscapes, native wildflower gardens, rock gardens, and prairie or mountain meadow plantings. Its tall flowering stems and vivid purple blooms add vertical color and attract pollinators in dry landscapes.
